The state of Uttarakhand is home to several sacred sites, including the Char Dham Yatra, which consists of four important Hindu pilgrimage sites: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These sites are believed to be the abodes of Hindu deities and are considered to be very holy.

Naini Lake is the main attraction of Nainital. It is famous for boating and a stroll in the evening. The Mall Road, Bus Stand and Naina Devi Temple are located around the lake.

Bal Mithai is a brown chocolate-like fudge, made with roasted khoya, coated with white sugar balls, and is a popular sweet from the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand in India, especially regions around Almora. Bal Mithai has long been a specialty of the Almora district, and neighbouring Kumaon Hills.

THE GEOGRAPHY OF UTTARAKHAND

The geographical area of the state is 53483 sq. km and the terrain and topography of the state is largely hilly with large areas under snow cover and steep slopes. Uttarakhand State comprises of 02 regions 13 districts, 78 Tehsils and 95 community development blocks.

The Pandavas (of the Mahabharata) are believed to have visited here during their vanvas (forest exile). Local legend tells that when their wife Draupadi was thirsty, Bhima struck the ground with his mace, and water gushed out. The lake that formed was named after him.

RIVER RAFTING

The best time for river rafting in Rishikesh starts from post monsoons (mid-September) till early summers (May). For crystal clear white water rafting November to March is a suitable time. During monsoons, it is not allowed to raft in the Ganges as the level of the river rises and is unsafe for rafting.

She is considered to be the guardian deity of Uttarakhand and is revered as the protector of the Char Dham's. Her shrine is one of 108 Shakti Sthals in India, as numbered by Srimad Devi Bhagwat.

DEDICATED TO LORD "SHIVA"

Bineshwar Mahadev is a 16th century A.D temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This ancient temple was built during the reign of Raja Kalyan Chand of the famous Chand Dynasty. Interestingly, the toy town of Binsar which used to be the summer capital of Chand Dynasty was named after this temple.
